The case for the woods

The Best Romantic Getaway in Ohio Isn’t a Hotel

Hocking Hills is about an hour southeast of Columbus — waterfalls, caves, and forest trails in every direction. Notestone Reserve sits on 14 private acres on the quiet west side of the park, in Laurelville: 7 minutes from Rock House, 20 from Old Man’s Cave, and far enough from the crowds that the loudest thing at night is the fire.

We’re family-owned, and we didn’t decorate for romance so much as build for it. A queen bed facing the trees. A hot tub a few steps from the door. A fire pit with the firewood already stacked. Every one of the ten stays has all three.

Six of the ten are built for exactly two people. Start with the two everyone photographs.

How the good ones go

A Sample Romantic Evening

Late afternoon: come off the trail — Rock House is 7 minutes away, the waterfalls a little farther — and straight into the hot tub.

Dinner: cook together in your kitchen, or let someone else do it — our local dining guide covers the spots worth the drive.

After dark: fire pit, blankets, and a sky you can’t get in the city — Hocking Hills is genuinely good for stargazing. In a mirror home, you can keep watching from bed.

“No TV in the mirror homes. On purpose. Nobody has ever asked for a refund on the view.”
What couples say
★★★★★
“My husband and I shared our anniversary in this mirrored cabin and it was one of the best experiences we’ve had in our 16 years of marriage. Stacey was excellent, responded quickly to questions that I had about the property and questions I had on our trip. We are hoping to make this our yearly retreat!”

Common Questions About Romantic Getaways in Ohio

The things couples actually ask — answered plainly.

Where is the most romantic place to stay in Ohio?

Hard to argue with a mirror home in Hocking Hills. Muir and Thoreau at Notestone Reserve are built for exactly two people: a queen bed facing floor-to-ceiling glass, a private hot tub steps away, and no TV to compete with any of it. If you’d rather have a full kitchen and a smart TV, the four tiny homes are the couples’ alternative on the same 14 acres.

Are the mirror homes private?

Yes. The glass is one-way during daylight — you see out, but someone outside can’t see clearly in. At night the effect reverses, so curtains are provided: sleep with them open for stars and trees, or closed for a fully private, standard-room experience. The bathroom is frosted glass, and the homes are positioned apart from the other units.

Do the stays have hot tubs?

Every one. All ten Notestone Reserve stays have their own private hot tub, pre-heated before you arrive, plus a wood-burning fire pit with firewood provided. That part isn’t a decision — it’s included no matter which you pick.

What’s the best time of year for a couples’ trip to Hocking Hills?

Every season earns its keep: spring brings wildflowers and the waterfalls at full volume, summer is starry fire-pit nights, fall is the famous foliage, and winter means snowy woods and more time in the hot tub. Fall is the busiest — book 3–4 months ahead for peak foliage weekends.
