Thoreau is a mirror home (also called a glass cabin) — a glass studio for two. Three walls of floor-to-ceiling glass surround a queen bed — one-way during daylight, so the view is unobstructed and your privacy is intact. Curtains close at night. Rain shower in the frosted bathroom. Private hot tub and fire pit outside.

The kitchen is built for simplicity: apartment-size fridge, portable stovetop, air fryer, coffee maker and French press. There's no TV — that's a deliberate choice, not an oversight. The forest views are the entertainment. There's a Bluetooth speaker if you want music.

One of two glass homes at Notestone Reserve. Thoreau is the last in line on its section of the property, which gives it a relatively private feel compared to most units here. Guests coming for an anniversary, a birthday, or a deliberate digital detox tend to book it repeatedly.

4WD or AWD recommended in winter months for the driveway approach.

Named for Henry David Thoreau, who moved into a small cabin on a pond to find out what was actually necessary. A glass room in the Hocking Hills is a reasonable modern answer to the same question.

★★★★★

“We absolutely loved our stay. The glass cabin is truly one of a kind — immersed in the beauty of the forest while still feeling private, cozy, and peaceful. Waking up to floor-to-ceiling views of the trees was breathtaking, and at night it felt like we had our own little luxury hideaway. The location was perfect, central to everything on our Hocking Hills checklist. Everything was spotless, thoughtfully designed, and exactly as described (if not better!). We would come back in a heartbeat.”

“The Mirror House was such a cool experience! My husband and I came for our anniversary and his birthday and fully enjoyed ourselves. The views were absolutely beautiful, especially with the leaves changing. For an extra fee Stacey allowed us to bring our pup and provided some extra goodies just for her. Everything we needed from kitchen supplies to toiletry necessities were provided. Stacey was extremely communicative and quick to respond. We highly recommend!”

“This place was absolutely beautiful! We stayed for our 23rd wedding anniversary — very peaceful and unique, exactly as described and just what we were looking for. Very clean and fantastic for a couples weekend retreat. We got the best sleep we have had in a while — the beds were incredible, the pillows too. We would definitely stay here again!”
