Arrive by 9 and you park in the main lot, walk straight in, and get the gorge with room to breathe. From Notestone that means leaving around 8:35 with coffee in hand. On summer and October weekends, the lot can fill not long after 10 — then it’s overflow parking and a shuttle-length walk before your hike starts.
Crowds thin noticeably in the last two hours before sunset, and the low light in the gorge is better anyway. Pair a late Old Man’s Cave walk with an early dinner in Logan and you’ve out-planned most of the parking lot.
